Established in 1988 by Pat and Peter Finning, PJ’s Discount Tyre Service has proudly served as Castlemaine’s foremost destination for top-notch tyres and precise wheel alignments. In July 2023, Sean and Phillipa embarked on the journey of continuing this esteemed family tradition. Our comprehensive services cater to Castlemaine and its surrounding areas, encompassing tyre sales, balancing, rotations, alignments, repairs battery replacements, and nitrogen tyre conversions and mechanical services.

Our business, PJ’s Discount Tyre Service is looking for someone to join our growing team as a tyre fitter and Wheel Aligner.

A tyre fitter is a person who specializes in the repair, maintenance and replacement of vehicle tyres (e.g. for cars, motorbikes, vans, trucks, agricultural vehicles, mowers and wheel borrows).

Their tasks include checking and adjusting vehicle tyres and wheels using electronic equipment (e.g. tyre pressure and wheel alignment, balancing and rotation), performing repairs and fitting new tyres in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and the relevant vehicle repair standards. Teamwork is important to us, and we are looking for a team player, who also can work independently and efficiently.

Job Title; Tyre fitter/Wheel Aligner

 

Reporting to Director: Sean Finning

 

Overall purpose of job:

A tyre fitter is a person who specializes in the repair, maintenance and replacement of vehicle tyres (e.g. for cars, motorbikes, vans, trucks, agricultural vehicles, buses and coaches).

Their tasks include checking and adjusting vehicle tyres and wheels using electronic equipment (e.g. tyre pressure and wheel alignment, balancing and rotation), performing repairs and fitting new tyres in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and the relevant vehicle repair standards.

Skill Level: Formal qualifications are not mandatory for this position. However, having an  Certificate II in the relevant field may improve an applicant’s entry into this position.

 

Main activities/tasks

  • Oversees the workshop facilities, plant, equipment and parts requirements
  • Oversees the work of the team and suggests improvements and changes
  • Repairing, replacing and fitting vehicle tyres

·         Inspect tyres and related components

·         Change or repair tyres

  • Performing tyre diagnostics (e.g. checking tyre condition, pressure, and tread depth)
  • Inflating vehicle tyres

·         Drive vehicles on to hoist or jacks

·         Road test vehicles

  • Checking and adjusting wheel balance, alignment, and rotation
  • Conducting Thorough and comprehensive wheel alignments, including, Camber, Caster and Toe adjustments with no short cuts

·         Test-drive vehicles to diagnose problems and make sure problems have been fixed

·         Receive, check and shelve new tyres

·         Select tyres and rims for particular vehicles

·         Follow occupational health and safety practices

·         Conduct stock take and relevant data entry

  • Ensuring work areas and tools are kept tidy and in good working order

·         Keep the workshop clean and tidy

·         Ensure hazardous substances are disposed of appropriately

·         Advise customers on tyre problems, choosing tyres and costs

·         Do tyre sales work and take payments

·         Follow occupational health and safety practices

Duties of Employees

  • Employees are responsible not to put at risk their own health and safety or the health and safety of others
  • Not to wilfully or recklessly interfere with anything provided in the interests of health and safety
  • To investigate within 24 hours any accident, near miss or dangerous occurrence and report back to senior management
  • To comply with any health and safety policies and procedures implemented by the Company in the interests of health and safety
  • To be a role model in health and safety
  • Employees must be able to read and understand  basic English competency and literacy in the interests of health and safety for both PJ’s Discount Tyre Service staff and customers

 

Special requirements

  • A drivers licence is a mandatory requirement to perform the requirements of this Tyre Fitter position
